Golden Tours Nicaragua

San Juan del Sur

We will start this tour, leaving Granada at 6:00 am, we will drive on the Panamerican highway for over an hour and 30 minutes and then take the road to the port of San Juan del Sur for 20 more minutes, a few kilometers before arriving at this port, we will stop at a private reserve to start our day of adventures.

Once at the entrance of the reserve, we will take a buggy, this all terrain vehicle will take us through inclined roads with potholes, rocks and ravines which will make our time here unbeatable, our tour in the buggy will take about 20 minutes and then we will walk around the forest for about an hour  and then return back to the base of the reserve in the same buggy.

Our goal here in this reserve is to find as much flora and fauna as possible, animals such as howler and spider monkeys, iguanas, lizards, colorful birds, snakes, but most importantly, today we all want to see two-toed sloths.

Hermosa Beach Relaxation Time

After this wonderful nature tour, we will drive half an hour to Playa Hermosa on the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua. This is a huge beach characterized by its white sand and big waves where you can surf. This is a place where relaxation is perfect; no noise from boats, yachts or cars to interrupt our moment of relaxation. Lunch (not included) will be at this wonderful place which has a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious dishes.

Turtle Tour or Sunset at Jesús de la Misericordia Statu Sunset

Nicaragua is a paradise where thousands of sea turtles nest every year. possible to see them nesting and/or hatching during your time in Nicaragua. Sea turtles nest on Nicaragua’s beaches mainly from June to January, but it is possible to see them in small numbers every month of the year, which in turn means that hatchlings are emerging somewhere almost every day.  Some species spend most of their lives offshore, but others are often seen by divers and snorkelers at popular island and reef dive sites, especially during nesting or hatching peaks.

At 3:30 pm, we are going to head an hour south to La Flor Wildlife Reserve, this large beach is the epicenter of mass arrivals of Olive Ridley Turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea). During the nesting months (June to January), the chances of seeing turtles coming out of the ocean, crawling along the beach in search of a good place to dig a hole and lay their eggs are very high and today, our goal is to see hundreds of them. We are going to arrive at this place around 5:00 pm and we have to wait sometimes 3 to 5 hours to see them, however, sometimes we don’t need to wait because they start to arrive early in the evening. Around 7 to 9 pm, after we see turtles, hopefully we are going to see them as most of the time we do. We mention this because this is nature; we are going to drive back to Granada.

The turtle nesting festival occurs practically in the months of June to January, so if you are coming during the months of February to May; we have decided, instead of going to La Flor wildlife refuge; after doing Playa Hermosa, we will drive to San Juan del Sur for about 30 minutes to climb the Jesus de La Misericordia statue to enjoy the sunset. After this, we will drive back to Granada where we will arrive around 8 pm.
