Mombacho Volcano Night Walk + Camping + Bird-watching Tour

The Destination: City of Granada

The Mombacho Volcano night tour is a unique experience that will allow you to explore this impressive volcano and its surroundings in the dark, adding a touch of mystery and adventure. Mombacho Volcano, located near the city of Granada, Nicaragua, is famous for its lush cloud forest and biodiversity. During the night, the environment changes completely, allowing you to observe nocturnal animal species that are not seen during the day and enjoy the tranquility of the forest under the starry sky.

We begin this tour at 4:00, we will leave your lodging and we will drive 30 minutes to the base of the volcano and 15 more minutes to 700 meters above sea level. Here, we will see the sunset while enjoying a delicious coffee. At 6:30 pm, we will start walking on the trails located at this altitude, this first walk will be for more than one hour and then, a 4×4 pick up truck will pick us up to take us to the 1150 meters above sea level to look for an endemic (found just here) species of salamander. Besides seeing this treasure, the endemic salamander which scientific name is Bolitoglossa mombachoensis. The night hike is different, it is possible to see and hear species such as frogs, nocturnal snakes, insects and some mammals that come to life at night. The cool climate and the sensation of walking through a cloud forest under the moon and stars make this tour an unforgettable experience, ideal for nature lovers and those looking for an adventure out of the ordinary.

Camping & Fire

Mombacho Volcano, located near Granada, Nicaragua, is a popular destination for hiking and eco-tourism, and camping on the volcano itself is generally a totally different way to explore this protected nature reserve. The area is known for its lush cloud forest, unique wildlife, and breathtaking views of Granada.

Once we are done with the night walking tour, we will camp in Las Flores Coffee Farm, located 700 meters above sea level. At this place, we will have a bonfire, have some drinks (wine, rum or beers) if you want and we will have dinner enjoying the sky and the fire and the surrounding environment.  

Early Bird-Watching Tour

The transition between the tropical dry forest and cloud forest, provides a diverse ecosystem and hence, a great habitat for various bird species. For this tour, we will wake up early in the morning around 5:30 am, we will have a big cup of coffee and then, we will start to look for our feather friends. Hopefully, in an hour or two, we could be able to see from 30 to 50 species of birds. 

Once we are done, we go back to our camping area and have a delicious breakfast and after that, we will get ready to go back to Granada.
