Masaya Volcano Night Tour

The Destination: City of Masaya

The night tour to Masaya Volcano is one of the most exciting and unique experiences in Central America. This active volcano, located in the Masaya Volcano National Park, is known for its impressive Santiago crater, where an incandescent lava lake can be observed inside. During the night tour, our clients have the opportunity to see the volcanic activity in all its splendor, as the evening lights and the darkness of the night highlight the orange glow of the lava bubbling in the crater. The experience of seeing the glow of lava at night, while listening to the roar of the volcano, is impressive and something that can only be experienced in a few places in the world.

For this tour, you will be picked up at 3:30 pm. We will drive 40 minutes to the entrance of the National Park. Once we are in the Santiago crater parking area, we will walk for about an hour and a half to admire the different viewpoints of the park. On a clear day, from these viewpoints we will be able to see the Masaya Lagoon, Masaya City, Managua City, Momotombo Volcano, Momotombito Volcano, Xolotlán Lake and Mombacho Volcano. In addition, we will be able to observe how the sun’s rays are embedded in the volcanic gasses to form a unique and enchanting panorama. This climb to the viewpoints will begin at 4:45 in the afternoon. Once we have enjoyed this spectacular sunset, and night begins to fall, we will hike to the main crater. If this active crater is not filled with volcanic glasses, then we will be able to see the lava we talked about earlier in this itinerary.

In the main crater, we will spend about 15 minutes and then, we will return to Granada at about 7 pm.
