The Masaya Volcano Night Tour is truly one of the most thrilling and unforgettable experiences in all of Central America. Located within Masaya Volcano National Park, this active volcano features the awe-inspiring Santiago Crater, where a glowing lava lake can often be seen. As night falls, the vibrant orange light of the molten lava becomes even more dramatic, creating a breathtaking contrast against the darkness — a rare spectacle that few places in the world can offer. The sound of the volcano adds to the intensity, making this a moment you’ll never forget.
The adventure begins at 3:30 PM with a pickup from your location, followed by a 40-minute drive to the park entrance. Once at the Santiago Crater’s parking area, we’ll start a 1.5-hour walk to explore several panoramic viewpoints. On a clear day, you’ll be able to see stunning sights including Masaya Lagoon, Masaya City, Managua, Momotombo and Momotombito Volcanoes, Lake Xolotlán, and even Mombacho Volcano. As the sun sets, the way its rays filter through the volcanic gases creates a surreal and magical landscape.
Around 4:45 PM, we’ll begin the hike up to the viewpoints to enjoy this spectacular sunset. As twilight sets in, we’ll make our way to the main crater. If the crater is free of volcanic gases, you’ll have the rare chance to witness the glowing lava up close — a scene both humbling and unforgettable.
We’ll spend around 15 minutes at the crater before heading back to Granada, arriving at approximately 7:00 PM.
The Masaya Volcano Night Tour is currently unavailable, but we can offer a day tour on the Comalito Trail at the base of the volcano. Let us know if you’d like to book it!
