Best Time for Birdwatching at Chocoyero
For the best birdwatching tour experience at Chocoyero, early morning and late afternoon are the ideal times to visit, as birds are most active during these hours. If you choose the morning tour, we’ll pick you up at 5:00 AM from Granada, Masaya, Apoyo Lagoon, or Managua. For the afternoon tour, pickup is at 2:00 PM, giving you a full day to explore the stunning reserve. The journey takes about an hour each way, with over two hours of guided exploration in the heart of the reserve.
If you opt for the afternoon tour, you’ll also visit El Brujo Waterfall, a picturesque spot that adds to the natural beauty of the area. Afterward, we’ll take you to the parakeet nesting site, where you’ll witness hundreds of Chocoyos returning before nightfall. Every morning, these vibrant parakeets leave their roost to forage and return at dusk, offering an incredible wildlife spectacle that is one of the highlights of the tour.
