Discover the traditional way of life in the beautiful archipelago of Las Isletas de Granada with this authentic artesanal fishing experience on Lake Nicaragua. This immersive tour allows you to spend time with local fishermen and learn the ancestral fishing techniques that families in the islets have practiced for generations.

The experience begins in Granada at 7:00 AM, then we will traver by car for 45 minutes to  the El Diamante Local Port located on the shore of Lake Nicaragua. There, you will meet your local fisherman and guide. Instead of using a motorboat, you will board a traditional wooden rowing boat, quietly navigating the calm waters and narrow channels between the volcanic islands of Lake Nicaragua.

During the tour, you will actively participate in different traditional fishing methods. Your guide will demonstrate how to throw the circular fishing net known locally as an “atarraya”, a skillful technique used to catch fish in shallow waters. You will also learn how to fish using simple wooden fishing rods, another traditional method commonly used by local families.

After fishing on the lake, you will visit a local family living in the islets, where the experience becomes even more personal. Together with your hosts, you will clean the fish you caught and prepare a traditional meal, learning about local cooking techniques and daily life on the islands.

Finally, sit down and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch featuring your catch of the day, surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of the islets and the warm hospitality of the local community.

This experience offers a true cultural connection with the people and traditions of Lake Nicaragua, far from typical tourist activities.
